Within the specific context of the ERC RUTTER Project, and more broadly of the study of Medieval Arabic Science and Philosophy, an Arabic Reading Group will be open to the general public from Wednesday 4 March. The weekly sessions will last approximately 90 minutes and will be run by Dr Juan Acevedo. A basic knowledge of written Arabic is required to attend. We are currently reading one of the best known and most influential treatises on Arab navigation, Al-Fawā’id fī uṣūl ‘ilm al-baḥr wa-al-qawā‘id (Useful Texts on the Principles and Foundations of Maritime Science), by Aḥmad ibn Mājid.
